NVIDIA driver for multiple kernel

I recall seeing this posted before, but can't remember the details for this. I would like to know how to install the NVIDIA display drivers for multiple kernels on one computer, where I do not have to reinstall the driver each time I switch kernels. For example, if I decide to use the 2.6.18.x kernel, and then switch to the 2.6.19.x kernel on the same computer, the NVIDIA driver would be installed for each kernel. If someone could point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

That should happen automatically. If both kernels are on the same partition then both kernels are going to use the same X software. Therefore they will both use the same X software driver.

If you are talking about having each kernel reside on its own partition then the easiest approach would be to install the X software and its drivers separately on each kernel's partition.

I think that you need to run the nvidia installation to produce the kernel module for each kernel. You can use the -k option to build a module for a non-running kernel.

Code:
       -k, --kernel-name=KERNEL-NAME
Build and install the NVIDIA kernel module for the non-running
kernel specified by KERNEL-NAME ( KERNEL-NAME should be the out‐
put of `uname -r` when the target kernel is actually running).
This option implies '--no-precompiled-interface'. If the
              options '--kernel-install-path' and '--kernel-source-path' are
not given, then they will be inferred from KERNEL-NAME ; eg:
              '/lib/modules/ KERNEL-NAME /kernel/drivers/video/' and
              '/lib/modules/ KERNEL-NAME /build/', respectively.
