Nvidia 6800gt(bfg Overclock)

After installing the NVIDIA drivers from NVIDIA'S website I tried to run xorg... I got some error about there being no useable CRT displays left... when I use a diffrent monitor XORG loads correctly... the problem being the one display is only a 15 inch... where the unusable is 17 inch... I know the HORIZ sync range is correct because I got the numbers straight from the developers website... can anyone give me a solution? Sorry if this is vague I am not sure what information you would need.

MONITORS:
ENVISION EN-720 (17")
CAMPAQ PERSARIO 750 (15")

HSYNC 30.0 - 70.0
VSYNC 40.0 - 90.0

Hi i'm not sure i follow what you mean but you could try to run a program called xorgconfig which you can find in /usr/X11R6/bin.
I hade problems with my resolution for my NVIDIA fx 5800, could only get 600x800, running this program 5-6 times got me going. you will get possibilities to change both H and V sync if i remeber wright.

Login as root
logout of x
type cd /usr/X11R6/bin
type xorgconfig
login to x again

Good luck!

Sorry I was exhausted when I wrote that first post. So let me clear things up a bit.

I was trying to get hardware acceleration to work in Slackware 10.2. To accomplish this I downloaded the official NVIDIA driver from nvidia.com. After the installation of the driver was complete and X was "properly configured" x would not start. I did as X suggested and took a look at the Xorg.0.log file and saw the following errors:

Code:
(II) NVIDIA(0): Not using default mode "1920x1440" (hsync out of range)
(II) NVIDIA(0): Not using default mode "960x720" (hsync out of range)

If you get these errors the solution is fairly simple, I just needed to fully understand the problem. The default settings of the NVIDIA driver use EDID to get information about the monitor. Included in that information is the HSYNC and VSYNC settings of your monitor. The problem being... my monitor was not recognized by EDID and was unable to retrieve those settings. If you have this problem you simply need to add the line 'Option "IgnoreEDID" "1"' to your Device section of your xorg.con. An example would be:

Code:
Section "Device"
    Identifier "NVIDIA 6800gt"
    Driver "nvidia"
    Option "IgnoreEDID" "1"
EndSection
Note: You will need to manually enter the HSYNC and VERTREFRESH settings manually.

I don't usually make it a habit of posting questions like these on forums because the answer is usually something simple. As I feared shortly after I joined and posted I found the answer in the nvidia driver documentation (buried way in there). I posted back because I noticed there are several un-answered posts out there (not on this forum) by people who were having the same issue. Hopefully this post won't be deleted and someone will find it useful.

Right there is a prime example of sharing. You found the solution, and told about what you did and where you found it.

THAT is one reason that Jeremy rarely (Actually, never!) deletes posts.

Thank you
