nv vs. nvida drivers

I have a older computer, the specs are as follows;
AMD 1800xp+, 768 megs of ram, 40 gig HD, and a quadro2 pro graphics card. I am running Slackware 12.1

My question is are there any advantages with the nvidia proprietary drivers. I cannot get 3D enabled as my card is not supported. That being said are there any other good reasons? I did try to install them using one of the threads on this forum. It did not work as I had several errors. SO is it worth the hassle. I should say I am happy with the way the screen is setup.

Thanks for any help Kelean.

Probably not then.

Have you tried Nvidia's 'legacy' drivers. That appears to list the Quadro2 pro series of cards.

Thanks neighbor to the south.

Yes I have tried the legacy drivers with a couple of other distros. I was not able to get 3D enadled with those either. It is true the card is supported but the 3D is not.

I have an old computer too and using proprietary nvidia driver, my computer does not resume from hibernation/suspend.

I like hibernation/suspend (speceally on this slow computer) more than 3D desktop, so I am using the opensource nv driver instead.

If you want 3D accel, use the proprietary nvidia drivers, but most likely you will need to use legacy versions as GazL suggests.
