Not so much software as hardware

Hello all once again! man is it weird to be looking at something other then a false ceiling in a hospital bedroom. Okay i have a different sort of question and please bare with me this is my first time back online in almost 2 months.

Currently i'm (or rather was running Slackware) on a 2 year old system it was an athlon 2.1 ghz cpu with 1 gig of ram. As a welcome home present my girlfriend and parents bought me a box kit from komplett.ie to kepp me entetained while i attend the physio.

Anyway while is was mounting the CPU into it's socket i cracked one of the catch hooks. Can these be replaced? has this ever happened to anyone else? Why do i love slackware? why does M$ suck mushy peas? and finally why is the world round while cpu's are square?

thanks The Yikes

p.s

has anyone ever heard a monkey sing???

No. You have to replace the entire socket (or mobo). The vendor may replace if it is still under warrenty.

Hi,

Welcome Back! Hope everything works out for you.

As for the broken socket, try as suggested about the warranty. What motherboard and CPU?

Man, that sucks. (I suppose luck hasn't been with you as of late ... sorry to hear that).

If it's under warranty, then they'll replace it. Was it a plastic clip / hook ? I hate those, they break so damn easy. I usually try to get everything with metal clips or hooks (which is not always possible).

You should be able to find a cooler that uses all the hooks and not just the one in the middle.

Can these be replaced? i would try (in order) epoxy, soldering iron (if metal), duct tape, hammer+expletives..

has this ever happened to anyone else? probably

Why do i love slackware? you have used it

why does M$ suck mushy peas? because they can, and people keep buying it

and finally why is the world round while cpu's are square? a sphere is the most efficient shape, and think of trying to line up pin1 on an 940-pin AM2 socket round cpu.. no thanks, i'll take mine square

has anyone ever heard a monkey sing??? do howler monkeys on PBS count?
