I use PUTTY at work to connect to my PC but since I have installed slack I have not been able to connect. I can pull up my test webpage but nothing else. Also I have an XP machine on my local netwrok and cannot use Samba to connect. I can see my share files when running SMBCLIENT and I can connect to my XP machine but not the other way around. My cmb.conf is pretty basic, is there something else I am missing?

So if i understand your problem right-you want to connect from xp to slackware box?

1.do you have ssh daemon running?
2.did you install firewall on slack box
3.if any firewall exists between there ,did you open your ssh or other needed ports?
About samba-did you make samba conf and shares?did you opened ports for them

for accessing xp from slack use smbmount command rather.
try using swat ,and in console ping ,telnet, netstat and ps commands at their full power.
little knolige about basic networking would help you.

Yes that is my problem.

1. yes the ssh deamon is running.
2. No firewall installed on the linux box I have a firewall connecting my network to my cable.


I can access xp from slack but cannot access slack from xp. Also I can see the Linux box when I browse network neiborhood.

But I still cannot connect to my linux box.
