I was looking at logs a little earlier and happened to see this in the kdm log:
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
> Warning: Compat map for group 2 redefined
> Using new definition
> Warning: Compat map for group 3 redefined
> Using new definition
> Warning: Compat map for group 4 redefined
> Using new definition
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
Anyone have any idea why this is happening, what it is and if there's something I can do to make it stop? It's not causing any problems that I can tell, as the keyboard seems to be working fine.
Info: Logitech K120 keyboard on Slackware 14, English mapping if that helps any.
xkbcomp compiles keymaps for X. It is one of the most poorly documented programs and seems to be compiled in debug mode, where it spits an error if the sun goes behind a cloud. I did put time into rectifying it, failed completely to find anything readable, a thread here sank without answer, etc. so I gave up.
I see someone has added a man page for it. Maybe start there?
man xkbcomp

Strange. It serves no purpose yet like you said it has to put out a message something in it messed up a little bit but it's okay if it did.
I'll try and look more into this and if I can remember when/if I find an answer/fix, I'll post back about it. Thanks for the info!
