noob losing hair over 2.6.4
hi i am attempting to use kernel 2.6.4 with 9.1 i have managed to compile the kernel and modules about 5 times now! but still i am hitting the same problem :(
when i try to start x i get: (EE)GARTInit: un able to open /dev/agpgart (no such device) (EE)I810 (0): AGP GART support is not available make sure your kernel...... (EE) Screen (s) found but none have usable configuration After the first time this came up i reinstalled and made kernel all over but could not find agpgart in xconfig. been trying all day and this last time i typed modprobe agpgart and recived this message FATAL: Module agpgart already in kernel. hmmm im very confused, please can anyone help me? |
Hello,
hmm, I also have 2.6.4 on 9.1, and "agpgart" as module. My machine has an Intel mainboard (i850 chipset) and the "agpgart" module depends on the module "intel_agp". Hope that will help a little... ;) cu hp_tux |
i believe agpgart is listed under character devices
|
cat /usr/src/linux/.config | grep CONFIG_AGP
that will tell you if you compiled it or not, and it will be the first result ... and wizard is right, it is under character devices ... Device Drivers ---> Character Devices ---> /dev/agpgart (AGP Support) its half way down ... |
just want to say a big thankyou to you all for the help have just got 2.6.4 up and running with X and modem support :) my mouse wheel has stopped working but will look into that at a later date ;)
Thanks again |
Mouse wheel should be very simple. Do a quick search here and you'll find the answer no probs. You just need to adjust add one line to a file.

Yeah, for the mouse, use IMPS/2, not PS/2 and add:
"Option" "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" Remove any emulate 3 button stuff. |
ok how did you get the sound to work? :D
