Question Non root rights in Mozilla

Dear all,

As a normal user Im not allowed to install Mozilla add-ons like Mouse-gestures etc.
When logged in as root, there is no problemmo.

How do I change it, so that a normal user can install theese updates?

Thanks in advance!

Two possibilities ...

a) you don't. Normal users should NEVER have the
rights to do system wide installs (don't trust yourself,
you might have been hacked).

b) Install it in your local plugin-directory.

Cheers,
Tink

Local plugin folder? Great!
I just have to create the plugin directory in local .mozilla and copy the plugins into that?

There should already be a plugins folder in your ~./mozilla folder.

Nope. Inside my ~./mozilla folder, there is a default folder and a "user name" folder...
Could I create a plugins folder, and make a symlink to /usr/include/mozilla-1.6/plugins?

That's odd, I have a plugins folder, but no user name folder. Does root have a plugins folder in the .mozilla folder? If so, you could try adding a plugins folder and adding symlink to the plugins in your /root/.mozilla/plugins folder.

I use firebird, and keep it in ~/Programs/MozillaFirebird, that way I can add plugins to ~./Programs/MozillaFirebird/plugins. Also, extensions don't go into the plugins folder (at least not for firebird), but since it doesn't belong to root I can install and modify extensions as a user.
