No xconfig?!

I run Slack9 at home and also at work. At work, I can cd to the source directory and #make xconfig and it works just fine. At home, when I run make xconfig I get this error:
Quote:
rm -f include/asm
( cd include ; ln -sf asm-i386 asm)
make -C scripts kconfig.tk
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20/scripts'
cat header.tk >> ./kconfig.tk
./tkparse < ../arch/i386/config.in >> kconfig.tk
echo "set defaults \"arch/i386/defconfig\"" >> kconfig.tk
echo "set ARCH \"i386\"" >> kconfig.tk
cat tail.tk >> kconfig.tk
chmod 755 kconfig.tk
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20/scripts'
wish -f scripts/kconfig.tk
Application initialization failed: no display name and no $DISPLAY environment variable
Error in startup script: invalid command name "button"
while executing
"button .ref"
(file "scripts/kconfig.tk" line 51)
make: *** [xconfig] Error 1

What gives? Any ideas? I really prefer xconfig to menuconfig

Thanks

incomplete installation of tk/tcl? that looks like the worst offender.

(btw. the 2.6.0 has new Gtk / Qt front ends instead of the naff TK one... much nicer.)

Thanks, acid for the response. I'm catching on to Linux very quickly...but, can you tell me what tk/tcl is and how I can "complete" the install?

2.6.0 is that the newest Kernel? If so, is it stable...any bugs or problems?

Thanks for the reply!

2.6.0 is still in tsting... not officially stable, so i wouldn't recommend it yet. as for reinstalling tcl / tk... no idea on slack i'll point someone else in your direction....

You can reinstall or install tcl/tk from the slack cd. Packages should be in the tcl directory.

installpkg name-of-package.tgz
