no wlan0?

Ok, so Im a linux noob. I have been using dual booting with slackware 12.1/vista (for a very short time) and decided to upgrade to 12.2. I followed the same set of instructions to set up my wireless network which worked in 12.1. They do not work in 12.2???

And now to a question that has been asked numerous times, but either the solutions didn't work for me or I didn't get the answers.

I am using the linksys wmp300n. In 12.1, it was a simple matter of using ndiswrapper.
ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf
(ndiswrapper -l to make sure it worked)
modprobe ndiswrapper

^^^which worked perfectly fine in 12.1, yay.

but after the above 12.2 shows this:

ifconfig:
eth0 (used for my wired connection)
lo
iwconfig:
lo no wireless extensions
eth0 no wireless extensions

uhh...im useless if that happens =p

Yes, ive found posts on this very topic on many forums...and I've tried to follow the answers but so far they haven't worked...that or im doing something wrong

Thanks, and sorry if this is in the wrong place (here or networking)

You probably don't need to but just in case, did you write an alias for wlan0?

From ndiswrapper man page, it says:
Quote:
ndiswrapper -m
writes an alias for wlan0 (default wireless device) into module configuration file so that ndiswrapper kernel module is loaded automatically when this interface is used.
check and make sure that the file called ndiswrapper located at /etc/modprobe.d/ directory contains "alias wlan0 ndiswrapper"(without quotes).

Also check and make sure that the line /sbin/modprobe ndiswrapper is included in the file called rc.modules located at /etc/rc.d/ directory. Hope that helps, good luck. Oh yea and Alienbob has a good wiki on how to setup network in slackware, maybe that can give you some ideas. Here's the wiki page:

Check, got that.

This is missing! I'll just add the line in at the end. (unless its supposed to go somewhere specific???) If something blows up I'll just blame that guy over there =)

EDIT: The line "/sbin/modprobe ndiswrapper" solved it--Much thanks =)
