no video on console with nvidia GT630 ( rev 2) videocard?
Hello!
yesterday i bought asus GT630SL1GD3L videocard
( http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/GT630SL1GD3L/ ) it was on GK208 chip ( released in 2013),
and be bit surprised. i also have installed nvidia 331.38 driver, earlier i have nvidia 9400gt ( old one) card installed, and there no that problem.
as so, i swap cards, and found, after kernel load nvidia drivers, there lost a image.
when i start computer, monitor show bios screen, then LILO screen, then "Loadin Linux...", and some lines after that - looks like, until it load nvidia kernel module and switching to it?
then screen appear absolute black with no any infiormation on it, until there appear ?kdm? ( initlevel 4) screen. from that, in graphic mode all is ok, but if i try to switch to console ( ctrl-alt-F1, f2 - i got nothing - monitor immediately going in sleeping mode, and there is no videosignal. when i switch back to ?kdm? ( ctrl alt f7) picture restores. very strange, can anyone get similar problems? i took fast look in google for that, but not found anything.
looks like nvidia kernel driver not switch on text videomode ?

I have the same card (bought 2 weeks ago) and I have no issue (Slackware 14.0/nvidia 331.20 & Slackware 14.1/nvidia 331.38)

Have you tried to pass "vga=normal" to the kernel ?

have you tried to reinstall the nvidia-driver ?
Is there warnings or errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log ?
If you have installed the driver using nvidia's installer, you can also check /var/log/nvidia-installer.log
This could also be (even if I really doubt about that) related to an incompatibility between the card and your monitor. From what brand (and which model) is your monitor ?

glad to hear, there be another user with that card and soft, and all its ok.
i try to reinstall driver today, when go to home, but not sure in what way i can do it, because seems when booting in console after load kernel driver there was blank screen.
in any way first thing i try to
linux single
at lilo, and see what happens.
vga=normal at kernel, i suppose, works until there was nvidia kernel driver loadeed - but until that moment i get a signal and all already is ok.
monitor is asus vw223 lcd, and works with my desktop about a 4 or 5 years already, without problems. also all that works ok with my nvidia 9400gt card. that problem starts immediately, when i change 9400 to gt630 card.
dont mind, Xord.log is be a helpful, becuase problem introduces in console, right after, looks, nvidia kernel module is loaded, in startup process. x starts a about 15 or 20 seconds later...

Finally solved!
as i say, i try to boot in linux single ( runlevel 1), but no luck - there is again a blank screen.
then i log in in xfce, run terminal session, and do "telinit 3" in that. and got an again blank screen, sure - but i ready for this. got in my desktop machine via ssh from another machine, and run nvidia 331.38 driver installation again. it messages "unable to determine the architecture of the file /usr/X11R6/lib/libEGL.la", as in first time when i installing 331.38 driver on my slackware64 14.1, but continue installation . when installatiion end, i reboot computer, and see no changes in situation. then i got inspect xorrg.log an not found any interesting.
then i go inspection messages.log, and found some strings about i915.
then i remember, i have onboard video - mother is dg965ss with integrated x3000 intel video - but i not use that for about 7 years, and never have problem like that - i use for many years nvidia 7600gs in my PCIe slot, then 9400gt, and now, when i put there gt630, that problem appear. very strange, why?
in any way, i do
lsmod
and see there is i915 module.
try to rmmod i915, but machine says, it is in use, and he cannot. then i go to /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-installer-disable-nouveau.conf
and add there a string
blacklist i915
then do computer restart - and voila - all works. information not lost during textmode boot process, and i again can switch to my consoles and work in it.
thanks to phenixia for a support
