Question No state is present for card Modem

After upgrading from Slack 9.1 to 10.0 and recompiling my kernel, I now get the following message on bootup right after alsactl is run and just before OSS compatibility modules and a font are loaded (i.e. in the last few messages that come up before I log on):

Code:
No state is present for card Modem
I'm not using a modem, and have no need for anything relating to a modem to be started. I can't find anything in rc.d that would be generating this message. What is being run, and how do I disable it?

Thanks.

After recompiling my kernel again to change something completely unrelated to networking or modems, this message is gone. Sorry for taking up board space.
