Thank You so much for this suggestion!!!yahoo!!!!!!!!!!!!I can finally listen to music

I'm having a similar sound problems as the peple in this thread but my lsmod is so much smaller than everyone elses.
I've done the alsaconf and it was not able to find any pci or ISA cards I've recompiled what I thought to be the correct driver as both a module and into the kernel with no sucess. If anyone has a sugestion on what I could be missing let me know

I would suggest putting _all_ the stuff in the drivers->sound->alsa section into your kernel as _modules_
then run alsaconf on the next boot.
Post what happens.

Tuttle,

Thanks for the siggestion.
I compiled the driver as a module and I also removed the other AC97 driver (because I know I have an Intel 810 chipset VIA. There was also another Intel sound driver located at the bottome that I also checkerd as a module.

this time when I ran alsaconfig It recognised my device and I selected it. I then turned up the volumes in alsamixer to the max green levels and Bingo! Sound (yes!)

here's lsmod:
Module Size Used by
snd_intel8x0 29212 3
snd_ac97_codec 91296 1 snd_intel8x0
snd_ac97_bus 2176 1 snd_ac97_codec
snd_pcm 86920 3 snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec
snd_timer 22660 2 snd_pcm
snd_page_alloc 9224 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm
eepro100 27536 0
ntfs 267700 1

Thanks again for the tip tuttle
