No sound in flash...

I have no sound in flash, for user or root. I do however have sound in everything else (System Sounds, music..) Before I had a problem like this...yet flash worked in root, but not user...so I simply had to change permissions. I tried changing permissions to /dev/dsp /dev/dsp0 yet...no sound. Wierd though, now that I made permission changes...flash will play...right up until where the sound WOULD be...and then it freezes.

I'm using Slackware-Current and Mozilla Firefox as a browser. I have this problem in ALL browsers though. I recently played around with SuSE...and flash sound works fine...so it isn't some sort of hardware issue...just a setting or something I assume.

Although this isn't a huge problem, it's driving me crazy

Where did you installed the flash plugin?

I figured out a solution. If i run artsdsp firefox it works fine

. I just added artsdsp to the shortcut.

You can also desactivate artsd.

Why do we have to do that? Can't we configure the plugin to use ALSA? I don't like the idea of having to run an extra program, taking up more ram just to get sound.

i'm not sure what you mean....
i use alsa and the standard flash plugin;
sound works fine.

I use gnome, firefox, flash 7, and flash does not have sound either.... although I'm on Debian now, I think it may have to do with how the sound systems work... I will try artsdsp later to see if it works for me too

Roach of Discor, I recommend going to the KDE Control Centre and disabling the KDE sound server. Then you won't have to use artsdsp to route Firefox's audio through arts, and you'll be able to use ALSA (much faster) instead.

If you're using straight ALSA (no arts or esd) and you're not getting sound in the Macromedia Flash plugin for Mozilla Firefox, then the first thing you need to try is setting up your sound card properly with "alsaconf." Slackware doesn't do that for you, any more than it sets up X for you. On my system, it's all I needed to do.

If you've done the above and you're still not getting sound in Flash movies, then launch Firefox with "aoss firefox." I guarantee that that will work.
