i recently bought a laptop gateway something or another
it has onboard sound and an broadcom 802.11g wireless built in card

when i install slack 10.1the otherday i did the alsamixer cmd
- unmuted everything, turned up the volumes ect ....
- it shows in xmms and others that its playing mp3, i dont hear any system sounds or cd, mp3 ect ... no sound at all ....

using slack 9 on my home puter, when i did the above made the sound work ...

the other question i have is how do i get wireless working on this laptop?
its a built incard not pcmcia.
ive always had cable b4 and just did the selection durring install, but have no idea how to do it thisway ...

Hi, umd.

Try the command 'alsaconf' for sound. After that runs and finds your soundcard, use alsamixer. If you still have no joy with that, post up the type of soundcard it is. You can find out with the /sbin/lspci command.

For wireless, if you have a broadcom chipset, you're going to need to use ndiswrapper to 'translate' the windows XP drivers into linux language. Check out http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net
