no sound after dropline install

I recently installed dropline and now i dont seem to have any sound. when i try to use alsaconf i get the message 'no supported pnp or pci card found' and asks to probe for isa and legacy cards. The sound is onboard nforce2 chipset on an asus a7n8xe. im using the 2.6.16 kernel with alsa drivers built in. i uninstalled kde from the sytem before the dropline install is it possible ive removed something i shouldn't have? what should i do to get it up and running again?
This is what i get when i type esd :
root@Solomon:/home/mally# esd
ALSA lib confmisc.c:560snd_determine_driver) could not open control for card 0
ALSA lib conf.c:3479_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_card_driver returned error: No such device
ALSA lib confmisc.c:392snd_func_concat) error evaluating strings
ALSA lib conf.c:3479_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_concat returned error: No such device
ALSA lib confmisc.c:955snd_func_refer) error evaluating name
ALSA lib conf.c:3479_snd_config_evaluate) function snd_func_refer returned error: No such device
ALSA lib conf.c:3948snd_config_expand) Evaluate error: No such device
ALSA lib pcm.c:2090snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default

Did you do a full dropline install? Did your sound work before installation? Our ESD is built with ALSA support. It doesn't look like it's finding any ALSA devices on your system.

What does "ls -l /dev/sound/" say?

What's the output of /sbin/lsmod ?

Yes it was a full dropline install. Im not entirely sure whether the sound was working before because i have only just gotten my speakers, but i was definitely able to run alsaconf before the install and it found my sound device and i was able to unmute everything.

Normally it is better to keep the sound driver as a loaded module

Dropline updates hal, udev and/or dbus, you will probably have to reboot to recreate your /dev nodes.
