No way, man, that would've been too easy

What is interesting, though, is that SuSE /did/ allow him to create the user RedNovember (uppercase). I don't have a SuSE installation (tried it, but found it too slow after using Slack), perhaps RedNovember could tell us what version of shadow it uses (if it does).

I have never used a Linux distro that allowed uppercase usernames either.

Actually, both Mepis and SuSE let me enter an uppercase username. They did warn me about it first, though. When I get home (posting this from school) I'll check my version of shadow.

Granted, KDE is a bit messed up, but that is for another day.
Probably differences between SuSE and Slack
I figured as much, experiencing this when changing from MEPIS to SuSE. However, this is different, in that Kicker won't even load, just keeps giving me an error message. I can see some kicker buttons there (firefox, quicklaunch applet, no k menu) but since my kicker is transparent, I can't see that. I don't quite remember what the error message is, but it's something to the effect that kicker cannot load. Whenever I close this message, it pops back up again. Understandably I'm somewhat hesitant to replicate this, because it also messes up my SuSE (damn you shared config files!)
