So I created a new user and I have my window borders back. However I would really like to fix this problem because I spent an enormous amount of time customizing my desktop...is there any way I could maybe do a default setting reset type of thingy for this particular user in kde?

Try renaming first one, and if that does not make a difference, also the second file. Both contain the KWin settings:

Code:
$HOME/.kde/share/config/kwinrc

$HOME/.kde/share/config/kwinrulesrc
Once it works, compare the newly created file(s) with the originals which you renamed. Perhaps you'll find out which setting caused this.
