You ask a question, and way more often than not, you get a knowledgable answer to that question, without the usual flames and off-topic replies that in most forums are the norm. (Yes, even in other forums here at LQ...)

Why is this happening? I think it is because the members in this forum genuinely care about the information being disseminated here. It seems that correct information is more important than personal agenda. The members tend to read the posts, not just skim them, and come to correct conclusions. Not a common result in other forums.

This is why I believe that Slackware is the Distro to use.

Let us be honest:
Slackware is not 'a warm and fuzzy' GUI.
Slackware is not 'easy to configure'
Slackware is not 'straight out of the box' great at hardware detection and installation.

Slackware is great because of the community that contributes to it.

Amen - I've learned more in the last four months here using Slackware again than I did in the previous four years using Redhat/Fedora (all the while missing my old Walnut Creek edition of Slackware)

I also agree. I tell anyone that is remotely interested in Slackware to go to one place: the Slackware forums at LQ. Without a doubt, this forum is one of the best Slackware resources around. The mods and veteran Slackware users that populate this forum are almost without exception friendly and helpful. I have tried to return the favor by helping out when and where I can.

I know that some people think the Slackware community is rude and arrogant, and maybe that's true in other places like newsgroups or IRC, but it's definitely not true here.

but for me atleast in LQ slackware must come first, whatever poll they conduct. we missed by 10 votes.
(atleast i could point out someone that lq shows the best distro is slcak )

LQ is the official slackware forum, which is why it attracts so many serious questions and replies...it's a great place to just read and learn....it's answered all my questions and has me running slack current for over a year now

I was commenting on the quality of this particular forum. I don't think it is this way because it's the 'official' forum. I've been to alot of those, and the quality is nowhere near the Slackware forum here at LQ. No answers, bad answers, spam, flames...These are at a minimun here.

Other forums here at LQ aren't at the same caliber as the Slackware forum. I asked a question about some hardware of mine, and because it was rather specialized, I thought a different forum area would be the place to go. The result? I got an answer, but to a different peice of hardware. Just as an aside, does anybody play music thru their modem? The yahoo who answered my post told me to do that. Not reading posts.....

Thanks to Pat for a great distro and all the guys here for making it easy to run SLACKWARE!

Slackware is not the easiest to run, but thanks to this forum, it is much 'easier'.

Just roll up your sleeves, and ask questions.

Better yet, roll up your sleeves and figure out the answers to questions on this forum that you do not know the answer to, then answer them.

That way, you learn, and the poster gets a good answer.
