no lib/modules/2.6.13 after kernel compile

I'm building a new kernel on slack 10.1, but after I go through all the steps, and I generate-modprobe.conf or depmod, I get "Can't open dependencies file /lib/modules/2.6.13/modules.dep

When I look, there is no /lib/modules/2.6.13. What gives?

Yup, as root.

Sorry it took so long to reply. Holiday kept me away from email.
