I chose Swedish layout and typed some Swedish signs like едц which did not work but I stayed with it anyway and it worked after the install.
Did you enter root as you logged in? I mean did the keyboard work then? Can you use the arrows in the install menu? If so then you probably don't need to worry at least it worked for me anyway.

I have the same problem on an asus a7s8x-mx motherboard with sempron2400+ and 200gb sata hd. I can start knoppix3.7 ok, and trying to install slack10.1 on the clean drive you can use the keyboard to select the boot image, but as soon as it gets to selecting keyboard layout the keyboard stops responding to anything.

I got it fixed.
I looked at some other posts on the forum and got an idea from http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=300265
I disabled usb legacy support in the bios.
All of a sudden the ps/2 keyboard continues to work through the install. There must be a conflict between legacy emulation in the bios, and the linux kernel. (i've tried bare.i, sata.i, scsi.s, scsi2.s, scsi3.s )

On my home pc I downloaded the latest kernel source and then compiled and installed it following the How to (search for Kernel-Build-HOWTO.html on google).
That up's your kernel so that you can then play arround getting the sound and graphics going.
