No kernel modules found for Linux 3.2.29-smp

Hi: I moved linux (slackware 14.0) from the primary partition where it was to a logical one. As it did not boot, I removed the initrd= line in lilo.conf and used a huge kernel and then it booted OK. Seeing this, I proceeded to make a new initrd image and use a generic kernel. But here lo and behold, it only boots if I use the non-smp generic kernel! If I use the smp kernel I get "No kernel modules found for Linux 3.2.29-smp" at boot. Why can this possibly be?
