No kernel...
I've since moved on from Slackware when I had this problem but I'm looking back at trying Slack again..
When I installed slack and tried to boot from lilo (without the cd rom in) no kernel would boot. If I had the CD in, a kernel would sometimes boot. Was there anytrhing special I had to do to get the kernel to boot off the cd? And about the 2.6 kernel?

Does LILO actually show up when the system boots?
You will want to make sure that you properly selected a kernel and installation settings for LILO when you ran the Slackware installer.

Lilo does install. I dual-boot Linux and Window and Windows is bootable, but if I try to boot into Linux it does the Bios Data Check and then nothing boots. No kernel. I did select a kernel from the cd during installation but this is what happens. I was reading the Slack Book and would this be a possible solution:
Boot in Slack using the CD and copy the kernel files and run /sbin/lilo?

If you have no kernel installed then that would be the solution.
You should also check if you've kernel-modules installed (ls -l /var/log/packages/kernel-*) and install it if you don't.
The commands would be something like:
Code:
# mkdir /mnt/hd
# mount /dev/hdXX /mnt/hd
# mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
# installpkg -root /mnt/hd /mnt/cdrom/slackware/a/kernel-ide-2.4.32-i486-2.tgz
# installpkg -root /mnt/hd /mnt/cdrom/slackware/a/kernel-modules-2.4.32-i486-3.tgz
# /sbin/lilo -C /mnt/hd/etc/lilo.conf -v
Replace hdXX with the correct root partition.

The stumbling block is that during SW10.2 install we can type sata.i,bareacpi, etc or hit enter for default kernel but later we are asked to install a kernel and from where-- from default location, floppy, cd or other location. Both steps have to be done correctly.
For example I typed test26.s instead of hitting enter to start setup with 2.6.13 kernel(test26.s) and install went along fine but when question came up about which kernel location to use I had to tell installer to use kernel from cd. That way reboot showed me the 2.6.13 kernel being used.
Of course, Pat's test26.s info told me not to forget that using test26.s would also require 2.6.13 kernel modules and may be alsa driver and kernel-source from cd2. And to be sure to not install 2.6.13 kernel-headers pkg. Another quirk/gotcha in SW10.2 nstall.....hmm.

If you DO install the kernel headers from cd2, the result is usually the same as the OPs original post: Nothing....lol
