I only have the checkgmail icon visible. No Kmix or kde keyboard switcher... could it be affecting only the kde icons?

Is HPLIP a QT application as well? It is built with --enable-qt4.

qt was updated as well as Xorg. If it was an Xorg issue, wouldn't all icons and images have issues?

From these reports, it seems to be a qt issue.

This is known to work for some people experiencing icons not showing up:

Option "UseCompositeWrapper" "True"

In your screen section of xorg.conf.

But one person (so far) has found that it just crashes X immediately, so make sure you aren't in runlevel 4 if you use it for the first time (do init 3 as root first).

Yup, made mine crash.
nvidia 7300 / 86_64-185.18.14

I did it in init4 but was able to go to Xfce to uncomment the Option "UseCompositeWrapper" "True"

Downgrading pixman to pixman-0.15.10-x86_64-1.txz solves the icon problem and the crash problem that I had.

Changelog for x86_64:

Sat Jul 18 16:04:24 CDT 2009
x/pixman-0.15.10-x86_64-2.txz: Reverted to pixman-0.15.10. There seem to
be problems with all the newer versions we have tested, for example broken
compositing, or missing icons in the KDE4 tray.

Yeah it would have been after that update I expect. I think a few people have the problem and more. Need to speak to Antiwire and prrkut.

Prrkut has started a thread on nv linux forums about crashes: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=136028

If anyone has more details can they please post there and keep the thread up?

Cheers
