no ftp in kernel 2.6.24.1

I am running Slackware 12 with kernel 2.6.24.1. I used the kernel .conf that I used in 2.6.23.9 and was able to ftp with it. Now in kernel 2.6.24.1 I cannot start an ftp session. What did I enable?

ftp is not controlled by the kernel. i guess as ftp does dump archaic stuff with tcp there could be something very subtle but i really really doubt it. are you still runing an ftp server and such? what does a tcpdump of the connection attempt look like?

I didn't think it could be the kernel, but when I booted into the earlier kernel 2.6.23.9 the ftp connection was accepted. When I try to start an ftp session into my Slack 12 box (kernel 2.6.24.1) from another Linux pc using gftp the connection is not accepted. No difference except for the kernel...I'm using vsftpd 2.0.5 on my Slack box.

Hm.. no problem here (i'm using 2.6.24.2 and also the same vsftpd as yours)
