no connections orginating from firewall

hey

i have a router/firewall and cant get connections to originate from the firewall itself, although connections from machines behind the firewall work fine.

i have a line in my iptables script that allows it to make connections to the web etc, even so i flushed all firewall rules and it still didnt work. i also restarted networking.

im kinda a noob and need a suggestion as to what the problem might be.

anyhelp would be mega. cheers.

Do you mean machines behind the firewall are able to connect to the internet perfectly fine but the firewall machine itself is not able to?

could you post your iptables script for analysis???

you should have an output rule that looks like this:

Code:
iptables -A OUTPUT -p ALL -o $YOUR_INTERFACE -j ACCEPT
and an input that looks like this:

Code:
iptables -A INPUT -p ALL -i $YOUR_INTERFACE -m state --state \
ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT
