i had done a full install of slackware 12 and gone for kernel upgrade to 2.6.23-smp downloaded from kernel.org and compiled manually. after kernel upgrade all other things works fine but audio not working. tried alsaconf it detected the sound card but no sound. tried compiling new alsa-drivers but getting errors while building make. when i modprobe hda-intel my sound card i get this error
root@gopi:~# modprobe hda-intel
FATAL: Module hda_intel not found.
root@gopi:~#
i could not guess wat has gone wrong, is it possible to install new modules for hda-intel and install it manually.
Probably you didn't include module (turned it off) for Intel HDA in your new kernel configuration. I use the same module for my sound card. Recompile kernel, but be careful with configuration this time. The best way is to use configuration for default kernel and then switch off options that you are 100% sure you don't need.
EDIT:
Oops, you mispelled module name, just like Alien_Hominid wrote. It is snd-hda-intel.
i had made old configuration with old config file and made menu config in that i can see intel-hda enabled in alsa section. probably i'll try to modprobe snd-hda-intel
