No ACPI Thermal or Fan Info in /proc/acpi

I never paid any attention to the temperature or fan speeds on my motherboard before, but now that I look, I can't find any info in /proc.
I have a quad core Phenom on an Asus motherboard that I would like to keep an eye on.
All acpi modules for fan and thermal zone are shown to be installed by lsmod, and /proc/acpi also shows subdirectories, but the info is blank.
Any idea how to get the fan speed and cpu temp to be monitored?

Code:

man sensors-detect
Then run it as the root user.

Thanks. That's a new one on me. Slackware has grown so large that it's hard to keep up with all the installed software. I had to grep the packages log to find that sensors was part of lm_sensors.

Thanks again.
