nm-applet problems with 'user'

Hi all, I've used slack 14 before and can't remember how to get nm-applet going, before I added groups plugdev and netdev...but can't remember anything else. The applet works when started as root, but fails when started as user? Here is my paste when trying to start nm-applet in a terminal.
