nforce2 nic on 2.6.1??

I have been trying to get 2.6.1 to work with my onboard nforce2 board's nic card and my mouse. I cannot get the nforce drivers from nvidia to compile once I boot into 2.6. If anyone has an nforce2 board with onboard nic and 2.6.x, how did you get it to compile/work??

I *think* the forcedeth (gpl drivers made from scratch) are in the new 2.6.2 kernel

yep it's there, and if you don't want a -rc kernel, just get the 2.6 patchset from the forcedeth page (go google) works a treat

I actually patched kernel 2.6.2rc3 (didnt know it was in there, if it was) and got mynetwork working. But only if I compile it into the kernel. NONE of my modules are loadng for some reason and I have yet to find out why. I cant seem to get any modules to load in 2.6.x no matter what I do.

do you have the new modutils?

i didn't know forcedeth was in 2.6.2, either, so i patched it. works like a charm either way, apparently. and no more kernel taint, hooray.

<<do you have the new modutils?>>

Yes, I have Slack9.1 which is supposed to be 2.6 compliant. I reinstalled the module-init-tools anyway, though.

I too have noticed that no kernel modules are autoloading anymore after the upgrade to 2.6.x, so you'll have to manually uncomment/add the needed modules in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules

Is there a way to get a list of all of the modules or do I have to fish through /lib/modules/2.6.2? 'modprobe -l' seems to list everything inside /lib/modules/2.6.2/kernel for 2.4.22 it lists hundreds of files. These cant all be modules right?

maybe you just didn't add loadble module support to your kernel. no way you can load a module without having loadable module support! you can always just go back and try a make modules modules_install again, checking for any errors

nah thats not it, I've rebuild and reinstalled this kernel proabably 100 times now. I dont understand why it cant load anything. Ive checked requirements again and just downloaded 2.6.2 and gone through xconfig again. I'm rebuilding right now. Theres really nothing else I can think of.

My modules are loadable manually now, but they wont load automatically at the startup. I have put the lines 'modprobe XXXXXX' into rc.modules. Also still no mouse support.
