Nfluxbox Desktop Released!

Hey guys;
I finally think I got the nFluxOS Desktop packaged for Slackware/Slackware64

Basically, this replaces Fluxbox-1.1.1 that comes with Slackware

It is much better than the default Fluxbox desktop and when combined
with my FluxConf build; see here for both
http://multidistro.com/downloads/Apps/slackpkgs.html

it becomes a very cool Desktop!

So, I need some helpful members to hopefully install it
and help me improve it if possible

It includes one wallpaper, all the fluxbox styles from my nFluxOS builds
and a custom update-menu script and customized fluxbox-generate_menu script that will recognize many more apps than the default fluxbox

make sure after installation to copy /etc/skel/.fluxbox to your /home as reg user
and then hit update-menu from apps&tools menu to update menu to your apps
edit fluxbox-generate_menu to add anything you need

Anyone please try it and fluxconf and give feedback for improving it
Thanks

I've installed the packages on a VM and ran into 1 minor problem. imlib2 isn't installed on a standard full Slackware install, might be worth mentioning it's needed. After installing the lib everything seems to work fine.

Thank you for trying it
I didn't think imlib2 was required but thats ok as it's small and available from SlackBuilds too..

you installed nfluxbox and fluxconf?
Thanks

Yeah I installed both. I must admit I'm more a KDE guy, but all programs seem to work ok as far as I tried. Just played around a few hours without any problem.

again thanks
So, as regualr user the shutdown-dialog.sh reboot/shutdown ok?

Have you used Slackware's default Fluxbox ?
If so, what's your opinion between the 2?
Also, any suggestions for making it better?
thx

Having imlib2 installed before you compile fluxbox allows you to have icons in your root menu.

Sorry for the late reply, been very busy lately.
I haven't tried the reboot/shutdown as I always suspend the VMs.
And no I haven't used Fluxbox before.

Perhaps this is the answer:

This “mutt” or “mongrel” approach is somewhat different from how most distributions build a distro. I make no apologies in the fact that nFlux will be using the most up-to-date and sometimes unstable software; thus it’s name “nFlux”.

Hi,

Can you change the background colour of that page to something other then bright orange? Its really hard on the eyes

linus72 09-06-2010 05:45 AM

LOL
I know
my html skills suck

however; the guy I made afterflow edition for
http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Syste...ow-59727.shtml

is probably gonna make me a new site similar to his
http://afterglowlinux.co.cc/

so we'll see!

and gnashley bruce hill is correct
the n stands for nflux

lol
you got 6690 post bro and you've been here since 2003, I'm sure you were right on many things!
I have been ignoring the nflux desktop as I'm upgrading all 4 nfluxos builds right now
meerkat being troublesome and some difficulty with new kernels etc

Bruce Hill 09-06-2010 06:24 AM

Sounds like I'm proving you wrong then.

Today I downloaded and burned nFluxOS-UMM-i686.iso and it
took 3 burns ... good thing it was a CD-RW. Let me know
when you get new ISOs uploaded.

linus72 09-06-2010 06:33 AM

wait, why did it take 3 burns?
if you got grub2 you could just boot iso off hdd, you know
I need to know if the iso is bad ?
it had no problems burning for me with Brasero
