The standard answer is "When it's ready". There are no set release dates

Slackware does not provide release plan. The team decides to release when it finds it appropriate (notably based on stability). However if you follow the changelog of the -current version, you'll find indication when a release is coming. Patrick Volkerding usually informs in the changelog when the -current version has reached Release Candidate (RC) status which means that a new release is on the horizon.

As for Gnome, it has been removed from Slackware some time ago. The reason is documented in changelog of version 10.2 (refer to the entry dated Sat Mar 26 23:04:41 PST 2005)

Clearly Jeremy's 'very near future' is slightly further away than one would normally take that phrase as meaning. Probsbly he just got too busy to find the time for it.
