Newbie trying to install Rox

I just got Slackware about a week ago. I most recently used Vector Linux, but I got a new computer and decided to try Slackware. On Vector I used IceWM and Rox. I've installed both packages, but I'm still confused. IceWM added itself to the kdm menu, but Rox didn't. Also, they worked together on Vector, but when I run rox-desktop, Rox takes over the desktop and IceWM keeps the taskbar. How do I configure this, and get Rox to start with IceWM?

PS: What's the difference between a window manager and a desktop environment?

Two possible ways to start a program together with icewm is (a) put a line for this in ~/.icewm/startup or (b) put a line in ~/.xinitrc. Note the latter will be overwritten with the default icewm xinitrc file when changing window managers with the xwmconfig command.
