Newbie to Slackware questions

I never tried Slackware and is curious about it.
Have some questions to ask:
1)can it dual boot with windows 7? It uses Grub bootloader?
2)does it have MP3 and flashplayer plugins? It has Amarok?
3)does it have Qt compiler?
4) does it play DVD movies? Blue ray?
5) does it support USB 3.0 ?

This page lists mirrors that actually have the ISO files: http://alphageek.dyndns.org/linux/slackware-mirrors/

Not as part of the core distro, but a package is easily downloaded (for instance at http://slackware.com/~alien/slackbui...player-plugin/) and installed.

Everything you need to install and configure Slackware can be found in The Slackbook.

You need to be willing to read and learn to get started but it is worth it if you really want to learn Linux.

Slackware is user friendly, it's just not beginner-who-can't-be-arsed-to-learn-stuff friendly.

Graphical installers are overrated. Slackware's installer is simple, yet both flexible and extremely powerful for anyone with the skills to take advantage of it.
If you don't have the skills to appreciate it, or have the skills but just don't like the Slackware approach then use something else. There's plenty of dumbed down distros to choose from.

+1

Slackware makes the assumption that the stuff between your ears isn't just zombie-chow. If you're not willing to learn, this isn't' the distro for you.

to dual boot with windows 7.
  1. Shrink the Windows 7 partition
  2. Install Slackware in the empty space
  3. Install Slackware's boot loader to its partition (you get this option at the end of the install)
  4. Set up EasyBCD in Windows 7 to manage the dual-booting

This is the best way to dual-boot any distribution with Windows 7.

What do you mean by QT compiler. It comes with QT4 and for backward compatibility QT3. It has small collection of KDE3 packages as well.

And about Dual boot with Win7, Just install Slackware on a partition and let the liloconfig do its magic. It configures your boot system pretty neatly and configure it according to. dugan tells you how to open a space for Slackware. Post your fdisk and resize commands to the form for information before you run them.
