btw it didn't work
as you can see, alias snd-card-0 and alias sound-slot-0 appear twice in modules.conf so....
1. remove all the stuff you added to modprobe.conf
2. remove all the stuff you added to modules.conf
3. add an "m" to your existing modules.conf like so:
Code:
# --- BEGIN: Genereated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
# --- ALSACONF version 1.0.5 ---
alias char-major-116 snd
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0m
alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0m
# --- END: Generated by ALSACONF, do not edit. ---
was there activity in arts control toll when you used:
Code:
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0
?
try stopping the arts server. This is the kde sound control server and is not strictly needed to use sound - in fact it could be causing the conflict.
To stop the arts server type "top" in a console then type "k" followed by the program id number associated with the arts server "artsd".
I know this is a pain in the a*se at the mo but once you get it going , it won't stop!
ok, try looking into arts in the kcontrol centre to see if is configured correctly.
Also, I think alsa configured itself correctly because snd-intel8x0m is for modem, hence the "m".
another way to test this is to use a simpler window manager like twm, fluxbox, xfce or windowmaker so that artsd doesn't interfere when you run alsaconf.
note: gnome also uses a sound server called esd which may interfere with things.
