Newbie's first trouble?

Hello Everybody.!
I'm New here.
Fresh, very fresh. Just installed Slackware 10. but Galeon doesn't respond, giving the following message:
Galeon failed to start
Ensure the "MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME" environment variable is set to the correct Mozilla installation directory

Help?!

wildes 12-20-2004 09:25 PM

Anyone?

ringwraith 12-20-2004 09:45 PM

Did you install any updates? Can mozilla start?

Navaboy 12-20-2004 10:01 PM

Pat dropped Galeon, it wasnt included in Slackware 10
I think thats why you got the error message.

Better yet, download the Slack package
http://www.linuxpackages.net/pkg_details.php?id=3216

and installpkg mozillafirefox-1.0-i686-1jim.tgz

To be honest I do not know how to download updates I installed everything on two CDs
and Galeon was included:newbie:

Did you install Mozilla?

IIRC Galeon is dependent on Mozilla.

egag 12-21-2004 11:45 AM

just go to the link provided above, and click " Download /HTTP /FTP " on the right.
download the package into your home-dir.

then open a console; type " su "; fill-in root-password.
goto your home-dir ( where the package is )
type #installpkg <name-of-package>

that's all.

O.K. Here we go.;)
I had such thing before and I'm Gnome user.
I know what you did so don't tell me no, because I did the same thing some years ago
and I was in that predicament too:rolleyes:
You used GALEON after full install. There is nothing wrong about that, however, you should not have used it as root before creating regular user.
Tell me, have you created regular user yet? If not then DO NOT yet.

wildes 12-21-2004 12:42 PM

How do I create regular user?
And yes, you are right that I used galeon as root:o

SlackerLX 12-21-2004 12:52 PM

Do not create yet!
follow this presicely:
#su
Password
#root@root#removepkg galeon gaim
$$$$$
#mount -t iso9660 /dev/"your cdrom device" /mnt/cdrom
Find packages galeon and gaim and then
#installpkg galeon gaim
#cd..
#root@root#updatedb

Soon after you've done that
#adduser
type username
In additional groups type: cdrom,video,audio.wheel
and follow on-screen instructions

#reboot
:study:
