If you want more virtual consoles, just edit the /etc/inittab file and add the number ' 4 ' to the virtual console lines that you want to activate.

Also, if you have the screen command on your system, you can run it in a console and you can then open more screens. That way you only need one virtual console. Check out the man page for screen.
