new to xfce

Well I decided to move away from kde and in to xfce.

I am still trying to get accustom to the menu but so far I am liking the snappy feel to it.

I have one question though... How can I get the desktop effects I had in kde in xfce?
Also is there a way I can change the application menu?

Thank You for the help.

Fast is good

There are instructions for changing the application menu on the Xfce WIKI FAQ in the Menu section. They don't apply if you are running Xfce 4.6.1 though (it doesn't have menu editor) so ask here if you need 4.6.1 instructions.

Not a week goes by without this and other forums seeing yet another bug relating to KDE and/or one of its components. You won't see too many relating to XFCE. I have been using it for years and it's stable as a rock. For stability, speed AND configurability, however, it is hard to beat XFCE's predecessor, FVWM. The learning curve of about 200 A4 man pages is worth every minute.

I've had that happen before, it was because of the emerald theme/theme settings I was using. Try using a couple of different themes, or not using emerald at all <-- If that's possible, been a while since I've used Compiz.

Go back to KDE if you want to have all these fancy desktop effects? They will slow down your XFCE desktop just like happened to your KDE.

If you installed compiz fusion from slackbuilds, there should be a configuration manager for compiz too - ccms (compizconfigsettingsmanager). There, in 'window decorations' you can define if either emerald or gtk-window-decorator should be started upon compiz launch. I guess you already know that. Or if you installed 'fusion-icon' (available at slackbuilds), you can use that to switch window managers.
