New to linux, using slackware 10.0, a few basic questions
I've tried a few linux distros (fedora, slack, mandrake) and I like slackware the most. It performs much better than the other two except for one big fault. Peroidicly, maybe once every two hours, my system will hang and be completely non-responsive for about five seconds. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
Also, I can't get my printer to work. Its a HP 2175 connected via USB. I cofigured it using CUPS and it recognises my printer. If I send a job to the printer it will be recorded as completed on the computer, but of course, nothing actually prints.
I also want to change the K menu icon, how is this done?
I am using a Logitech MX500 mouse. My scroll wheel works (except the option to adjust its speed doesn't seem to work) but my forward and back buttons on the side of the mouse do not. How can I fix that? Here is a selection from my xorg.conf file
I had this same problem (locking up periodically) using KDE 3.2.x, but when I upgraded to KDE 3.3, the problem went away. I also never experienced it in XFCE, so although I can't confirm this, I think it was something related to KDE 3.2. FWIW, I use XFCE4 as my default window manager now...

I don't know, but I experienced this soon after installing. After a while, it went away.
