Alan, do you have any plans to convert the source from Docbook SGML to Docbook XML? Docbook now includes stylesheets to convert DocBook XML to EPUB. So the conversion would make a proper ebook version possible.

Simple problems with a non printed version:
When was the last time you put notes on your computer screen?
How to have the pdf on your screen while installing?
Do you take your pc to bed with you?
How could you ever impress friends with an empty bookshelf, but with just a harddisk full of books?
Ever seen a signed version (by me, or Eric Hameleers ) of a eBook?

I did print out the 2.0 version in the past, but on A4 paper, without a proper cover, it really was a waste of paper. It never made it to the bookshelf, but the wastepaperbin was very happy with the bulk of pages.

Yes, a eBook reader will possibly be a solution to have a current version by hand.. but probability of the eBook taking over all printed books??

So yes please: Slackbook 3.0 (or 2.1?) to be bought, signed, stamped with 'ex-libris', written in, folded, slept-upon, and smashed some bugs with!
So true! Nothing beats a paper and ink tome filled with knowledge.Personally having the option of buying a real book or downloading a free eBook I will buy the real one any time of the day.

I just noticed this on slackbook.org:

No, I don't think Duke Nukem Forever will get released before the slackbook does (minus delays for printed copies).
Duke Nukem Forever came out earlier this week. Where's the new Slack Book?

A new slackbook would be nice but it makes me wonder if a new version is even necessary? Seems to me not much changes in slackware -- it always holds true to its principles. Is there anything new to "learn" or "teach"? Sure, Gnome was dropped and KDE is now version 4.X -- I don't think slackbook was trying to teach people how to use gnome or KDE, right?

Any news about the book? The git repository hasn't been modified since 28th April 2011.

I learnt GNU/Linux from this book (a Slackbook translation with Slackware 3.2 bootable CDROM)
http://product.china-pub.com/812
and I don't regret having it.

My thoughts exactly. While installing I wish for help but without a hardcopy you will not get any help.Unless you have more than one computer or one borrowed from a friend. When I first started I didn't even have an internet connection.Nowdays I take printout or buy books.I have a mobile with internet connection,it is really usefull.

Hey Alan! Aren't we a bit overdue with your quarterly ass-chewing motivational talk regarding SlackBook 3?

I've noticed several things that could be looked into for the book even the BETA:

1. BtrFS section needs to be added.

2. Basics into how to create and mount custom partitions could be looked into.

3. More insights into ALSA, X11, and other things like setup and configuration would be welcome.

4. Section for nano could be added as another basic editor.

5. Section for NetworkManager is needed.

That's all I can think of for now.
