New Slackpkg Mirrors List - Please Test
1 Attachment(s)
Hey Slackers!
Seeing as the slackpkg mirrors list hasn't been updated for quite a while, I've spent a (very) significant amount of time over the past couple of weeks trying to find new slackpkg mirrors, using the Arch Linux, Debian, and Fedora mirror lists as my guide (as well as the existing list). I'm satisfied that I've found enough mirrors to warrant testing from the Slackware community (although UK and US mirrors are notably missing at the moment, but I should finish investigating them within the next two days - my rationale for releasing an incomplete list is "release early, release often"). I encourage interested users to choose a country and try the mirrors listed for it, seeing if they're accessible and up to date, and if they have a ftp/http equivalent I haven't listed. I would also appreciate being sent any links to mirrors I haven't discovered yet, and information on whether they're up to date, only offer ix86, only offer Slackware-current, etc. I've written informative comments about the mirrors beside those that aren't up to date (and those that only have the ix86 version), just in case they update before the release of Slackware 14.0. However, I'll exclude the ambiguous mirrors from the rc, which, all being well, will be exactly the same as the final release. (Hopefully there will be only one beta after this alpha.) I've set myself a deadline of a final version by the end of next week (although the sooner the better, seeing as the release of Slackware 14.0 is imminent), and will submit it to Pat for him to recompile with Slackpkg. In any case, go forth and test! :D |
Here is an update for the Norwegian section. These are updated daily:

sorry jaycee, have you seen this?

@jaycee4 - Thankyou very much for your efforts. The mirror listings for Australia look good to me; there are even some I have not seen before.
@ponce - The problem with the listings at Slackware.com is they do not include mirrors in other countries such as mine (Australia). If you had ever tried doing large updates (e.g. KDE) from a mirror in a foreign country from here, you would know why a good local mirror is a very useful resource. |
F.Y.I. ftp.uninett.no and ftp.slackware.no are the same machine. ;)

Hello once more fellow Slackers!
Forgive my delay for releasing the beta - the past few days have been quite busy, and searching for US mirrors has been... rather intense, as can be seen by looking at the new long list. Nonetheless, I present you all with a list of mirrors that is essentially complete! Or, perhaps more aptly, overly complete - I'll be trimming the list of mirrors where there haven't been recent updates, or mirrors that appear to be duplicates, for the release candidate. I'm contemplating issuing multiple rcs, but that will depend on the success of my review of mirrors and my mood. ;) Also, it looks as though Pat's eager to release Slackware 14.0 very soon, and I don't intend to keep him waiting (or, more to the point, I don't expect him to wait for me). I want to complete my next release by Tuesday. This beta is largely similar to the alpha. Indeed, I only considered the previous list to be of alpha quality as it wasn't code complete. ;) The release candidate(s) will look a little different, pretty much having the appearance of the current official slackpkg mirror list, as the notes will be removed. Also, I'll preemptively list Slackware-14.0 mirrors, and I'll issue separate lists for x86 and x86_64, although I'm not sure what to do about armedslack... I think I'll leave it to Pat to contemplate. Test and enjoy! :) @allend Thank you for your appreciation, it makes my efforts all worthwhile! :) |

On the subject of mirrors, I'm sure many do this already but I cannot recommend enough using Eric's mirror-slackware-current.sh script to create a local mirror on another machine on your network, and then using your personal mirror to install/upgrade Slackware. I have a small fanless box that runs Eric's script from cron every night and is also configured as an internal ftp server. So I just plug in my box's IP address during setup and the install is super quick.

It's here! It's finally here!
Although it took me quite a bit longer than I expected, I've prepared the release candidate for each of the x86 architectures. Fortunately for my sanity, I don't intend to issue any more release candidates, as I can't see any problems with my lists, and if there are any, they're sure to be minor. So great is my confidence that I actually emailed them to Pat last night! That said, I can still be proven wrong (after all, I turned to beer to keep me going towards the end, which may have adversely affected my ability to notice mistakes), so I urge all interested users to have a peek and test their mirrors of interest. I extend my thanks and appreciation to all the users that helped by testing the list and notifying me of errors. That my efforts are noticed and are useful to fellow Slackers makes it all worthwhile. :) Cheers, Jordan |
Hello,
I guess, there's a typo in the x86 list : Code:

http://na.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/Slackware/ edit: ftp.osuosl.org is an alias of ftp.slackware.com (ehmm... the viceversa ;-) ) and of slackware.osuosl.org and should be /pub/slackware , not /.2/slackware Code:
$ host ftp.osuosl.org |
Hi,
Is there any way to determine which mirrors are accessible over IPv6? If [ipv6] could be added to those hosts that are in the listings it would be most useful. Thanks, |

Well, it seems there was good reason to attach release candidate status to my previous pair of mirror lists!
Thanks phenixia, that was a very astutely spotted error! Well done! Thank you very much zerouno for contributing the Italian mirror! Considering there were no Italian mirrors listed, Italian Slackers will be most grateful! :) As for ftp.osuosl.org, you are indeed correct that it's the official mirror. However, I spent a fair bit of time investigating this mirror, and through doing so I discovered that the exact location of the Slackware folder is in fact ftp.osuosl.org/.2/slackware/ (to which ftp.osuosl.org/pub/slackware/ links). If you wish to verify that, just try entering it in a web browser. :) Btw nickbeee, I'm afraid I haven't amended my list for noting IPv6 mirrors. I think that could become part of my plan (i.e. in a few months) to have a detailed mirrors page for the SlackDocs project. Thanks for the suggestion though! Now, I found two mistakes of my own, in a manner of speaking, after submitting the release candidate lists to Pat: 1. For two of the Swedish mirrors, they weren't in alphabetical order. :p 2. I removed lug.mtu.org, as it hasn't been accessible for about a week now, and I used a rule that, if a mirror isn't ready for the release of Slackware 14.0, it won't be included. Incidentally, I was consistently disappointed that mirror.corbina.net/pub/Linux/slackware/ hasn't been updated since mid-July. Anyway, I broke my rule for lug.mtu.org and held out hope, as it seemed to be working a couple of days before I issued the release candidate lists, but now that it's over a week I have to let it go, as far as I'm concerned. At least it's a US mirror - there's certainly no shortage of them! Also, after seeing zerouno make use of the host command (which I hadn't encountered before... yes, I'm quite a n00b), I decided to go through my lists again, using the host command to find and eliminate duplicate mirrors, and to replace alias mirrors with their actual mirrors. Anyway, I've attached the final mirror lists to this post for everyone's perusal. If anyone finds and reports any more errors I'll be grateful, but I don't expect any changes to be included for the release of Slackware 14.0 - indeed, I submitted the lists to Pat last night to maximise the probability of their inclusion for Slackware 14.0. Don't let that detail hold you back from checking them though! Thanks again to everyone that contributed to making the mirror lists as excellent as they are! Cheers, and Happy Slacking! Jordan PS. There's an Easter Egg I somewhat inadvertently put in the list of each architecture, which I told Pat about when I emailed the lists to him last night. Anyone that spots it can consider themselves truly 1337 (even if they're running Slackware-current instead of 13.37). Just some extra incentive for fellow Slackers to check my lists! ;) |
Hi! you guys have any mirror site to download the .iso image of Slackware64-13.37-iso? i saw it once but now i miss it.
Edit: Sorry, it's there listed in the mirror site you guys provided. Got it downloaded. Thank you. |

Here is how you could do it using the Norwegian mirror (ftp1.uninett.no) as an example. You will note that I omit the slackware64/kdei and source/ directories. I do this to keep the size of the final DVD down, speed up the download and conserve bandwidth. Adjust or remove this part as you see fit. lftp: Code:
lftp -c 'open ftp://ftp1.uninett.no/slackware/; mirror -enx "(^slackware64/kdei/|^source/)" slackware64-13.37' Code:
wget -rcl0 -np -nH --cut-dirs=1 -X */*/slackware64/kdei,*/*/source ftp://ftp1.uninett.no/slackware/slackware64-13.37/ Once you have the files you can 'cd' into the slackware64-13.37/ sub-directory that was created and issue: Code:
mkisofs -o ../slackware64-13.37-install-dvd.iso \ |
ftp://slackware.oregonstate.edu/pub/slackware/
Does not seem to be in the latest mirrors file of slackpkg or the mirrors list on slackware.com. Its always up to date for me and very reliable. |

/etc/slackpkg/mirrors: Code:
$ host slackware.oregonstate.edu Code:

Aww okay thanks

If someone can get the information in numbers 1, 2, and 3 here: http://mirrors.slackware.com/guidelines/ then I will be more than happy to add all of these mirrors to the mirrorbrain database. Note that rsync access from the mirror machine is not optional - it is required.

So, in all my devotion, I've been occasionally checking up on select mirrors in my list that have had... "unreliable histories", shall we say, in the lead up to the release of Slackware 14.0. I've noticed a couple of mirrors have resumed their inconsistencies, while others have recovered (notably, lug.mtu.edu has recovered after having a donation fund for their server). As I have two weeks of holidays as of tomorrow, I'm considering starting my extensive analysis of the existing mirrors, and any others I can find, for inclusion in SlackDocs. I'll be including information such as IP addresses, known aliases, and... all known protocols! Working at a steady pace, I should have all that info by the end of September. Of course, if anyone else wishes to find the mirrors that have rsync available, they are most welcome to do so. :) |
