AH! well spotted!

Thanks for the hint.

The real problems on my Slackware-current 32 bit since 26 may updates is:
- system is freezing for about 5 second when KDM login window apears, cursor starts flashig after this time and i can type in login and password
- there is similar freezing when i switch from X to another terminal (Ctrl + Alt + F1).
I will make further tests and write if I will find something.
Since my problem exist for about half a year, finally I found solution on Arch forum.
On some laptops with
Code:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 0c)
You need to disable SVIDEO port by adding to kernel boot parameters
Code:
video=SVIDEO-1:d
With above parameter system boots fast, without freezes or other errors in /var/log/messages.

I remember tussling with an Intel chip a long time ago that required the same treatment...

Yesterday's changelog in Slackware64-current.

Code:

We're moving back to the 4.9.x kernel series in the main tree until we can
figure out a fix for unstable 4.14.x kernels (especially on 32-bit). Guessing
it's probably going to be fixable with .config changes, since a greatly
simplified .config is stable. Meanwhile, the latest 4.14.x kernels can now be
found in the testing/ directory.

The guile and libunistring updates killed aisleriot. It would not run until I reverted to, first, the previous version of guile and then the previous version of libunistring.
I had tried to rebuild aisleriot, but first even after reverting to the two aforementioned packages, the build would end in an error,

Hi cwizardone, that seems unrelated to the kernel (should maybe be a separate thread). But maybe remove the aisleriot build directories from /tmp and try a new recompile from zero?
I just tested with a -current64 install in qemu, and aisleriot built and ran.

pysolfc (dependency) compiled+installed using
https://github.com/Ponce/slackbuilds.../games/pysolfc
No issues.
Then, used slackbuild from here
http://ponce.cc/slackware/testing/aisleriot/
(made one change in Slackbuild: bumped version to 3.22.4)
Source file used: aisleriot-3.22.4.tar.xz from https://download.gnome.org/sources/aisleriot/3.22/

@heyjann,
Many Thanks! That worked.
Yes, thought of starting a new thread, but with the packages in question listed directly above.......

Again, thanks.

As discussed in other threads, the "huge" kernel is actually using the "generic" config accidentally, so it will need an initrd until a new version is released (hopefully using the correct config). So, for any users using the huge kernels, either stick with your existing kernel or be prepared to generate an initrd for the new one.

Code:
/usr/share/mkinitrd/mkinitrd_command_generator.sh -k 4.14.11 -a "-o /boot/initrd-4.14.11.gz"
This will give you a command that will generate your initrd and save it as /boot/initrd-4.14.11.gz. Then you just ensure the initrd is properly referenced in your bootloader and you should be good to go.

It panicked on my system, so I'm back to 14.2. Fortunately, I have a separate /home, so the annoyance is minimal.

Stuff happens.
