New Kernel?

If I upgrade my Slack 8.1 box's kernel from .18 to 2.4.2 do I download the kernel source to the /usr/src directory or /tmp?

When you download the source tarball it can be where ever you want it. Just so long as you know where it is. When you extract the file, then make sure it is extracted in the preferred location /usr/src.
