new hardware in slack?

i am currently waiting for my slackware CD's from a freind across toun with cabel thats downloading them, i have one question though before i even start on slackware.

with redhat, the system will detect and help configure any new hardware on boot up.

does slackware have any sort of similar system? or is there some sort of complicated procedure involved with changing hardware?

i ask because i change my hardware alot.

well it depends...slackware comes packed with support for some things, but doesn't come packed with support for alot of things as compared to a distro such as mandrake or redhat, or whatever it may be...so whenever you appear to have a problem with a piece of hardware, you know where to come if you get stumped

Have you looked into rc.modules and uncommented the line corresponding to your sound hardware? Don't recall for sure, but it seems like that's what I finally did to get the sound working.

As for slack, I just started reconsidering the startup process, and for your info, e1000, in case you aren't already aware, the kernel generates the init script,
which calls /etc/inittab
which calls /etc/rc.d/rc.S
which calls rc.modules.
Then inittab calls /etc/rc.d/rc.M
etc...

You can a look in those files to get an idea of where your slack system is going.
