Lightbulb New Google+ Community for Slackware...

I just created a new community at Google+ for the Slackware community. I'm hoping it will be a useful and valuable addition to the family of Slackware support resources as well as a kewl place to just hang and chat with other Slackers.

If you would like to join you can do so by visiting this link HERE

I hope that helps! And I'll see you there

Kindest regards,

.

Thumbs up Slackware Linux G+ Community membership growing rapidly

Man, the community is about a day old now, and over 100 people have joined!

That's wonderful news.

I think there's going to be quite a bit of development and shaping in the way G+ continues to evolve, having already said goodbye to Google Wave (how soon we forget eh?).

Anyway, the G+ Slackware Linux Community is shaping up nicely and it's certainly a good place to post links to Slackware news, tuts, How-To's, blogs, etc.

Kind of a self-contained place to accumulate a lot about the community, and aspects of Slackware that don't pertain just to support issues.

For those who have already joined, pls feel free to post links to your blogs and other interesting Slacktoids (whatever that means).

For those who haven't, I'm sure it will at least ease many into the whole G+ thing - to have a safe place in a haven of fellow Slackers where one can get acclimated to this new Google thingie way of interaction

Kindest regards,

.

Thumbs up

As a follow up report on the way the community is shaping up, it has evolved and taken on a warm atmosphere, where people have been collecting and sharing the latest Slackware related news, HowTos and tutorials, and blogs that many would otherwise miss.

It's a unique in the sense that many of the most current and interesting events and occurrences are being shared amongst the community. Most of the well known blogs and repos for bleeding edge SlackBuilds and packages are featured with intros and links, including help forums like LQ here and the Slackware Documentation project.

Some of the most recent interesting news features that I've personally enjoyed are LDAP on Slack and booting Slack on UEFI boxes.

Of course the group is keen on closely following the blogs of Willy and AlienBoB too, for those almost up to the minute tidbits, and one thing that I really enjoyed checking out (and wasn't even aware of) and playing with was the WMFS (Window Manager From Scratch) for Slackware / SalixOS.

More of a community where people share ideas and tuts - their own as well as others - than a help site like what we have here at LQ, and a wonderful place for new Slackers to discover all of the various things people do in Slackware.

That last point, I think, makes the G+ Slackware Linux Community rather unique, refreshing, and useful for the entire Slackware community - not just n00bs

Must start thinking about creating the G+ account. So far the FB account has been enough social for me but if G+ Slack group means best source for news and info then...

That's what I did. And I had to subscribe to Google+. But then they ask for a mobile phone number! I never had one.

That's the second time someone in LQ says that! May be the user location.

You can skip that, there is a small link somewhere on the site to do that, IIRC.

Thanks, TobiSGD. I've look everywhere on the page (https://accounts.google.com/SignUp?s...419&lp=1&hl=en) but it is definitely not there. May be when you already have another Google account?

You are right, i have a Google account (not Google+) already for a long time. they asked me a few times to add my phone number, but I don't see why I should give that to Google, so I denied that always.
FWIW, I just created a Google+ account and was not asked for my phone number.

Let's forget about Google+ for a moment. I think when you created the Google account they were not yet so ... strict as to the phone. But now the evil has worsen, I think. I not only have not a cellular phone but I won't have it till the day of my death.

[OT] I used to think like you, but then land line phone is too expensive compare with cellular one. So now I have a cellular one (pre-paid, seldom make calls) and use it as a land line replacement, I always forgot to bring it with me.
