[SOLVED] New AMD APU, no sound from HDMI (Slackware 14.1 x64)

So I'm trying to get XBMC working (among other things today) and I believe this sound issue is my last large hurdle. I have an AMD APU, A10-6790K, and I have no sound. In my research I've come across I possible kernel bug where the Radeon audio is disabled by default, so I tried using the kernel parameter radeon.audio=1 in elilo.conf but I doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Is there something else I am missing here?

1. Upgrade to kernel 3.12, possibly better 3.13RC, there were some issues with HDMI audio in earlier kernels. You should use a 3.12 kernel anyways to get power-management of your APU fully working.
2. As you have already done, add the radeon.audio=1 parameter to the kernel command-line (and radeon.dpm=1 to activate dynamic power-management).
3. After booting try to enable HDMI audio:

So... compile a new kernel? So much for keeping this box on stable.

If you choose to use the open source driver you will have to live with the fact that you have to use a kernel that supports your hardware (usually something you should check before buying hardware for Linux).
Alternatively, just use the proprietary driver, in that case you don't have to change the kernel.

That's right I guess, just another minor hurdle to overcome. I'll be waiting for kernel 3.13 stable to be released.

Update: I've got Linux 3.13.0 running on the computer in question and I'm still having problems. I can only select mute or 0 volume for the AMD HDMI. Anything else I should try?

EDIT:

It's working! Turns out ALSA wasn'y setting the right device as default, but me search using all the AMD related stuff was filling my results with junk. Got it working using the instructions here.
