NetworkManager unusable and repeatedly disconnecting

Since updating to 1.18.0, my network connection is very unstable and nm-applet has become unusable as well.

At system boot, i am no longer connected automatically. If i reselect my wifi access point with nm-applet, it takes a long time to connnect. When it finally does, i get a notification that says "connected", but the nm-applet icon still shows disconnected state.

From there, i can ping remote servers as normal until a few seconds, which shows a password prompt with no other explanation (doesn't mention the access point name etc).

If i dismiss this prompt, the network cuts off and is unusable until restarting the networkmanager daemon.

Also, many of the interface buttons on nm-applet are not clickable, even the about dialog is impossible to close. Maybe worth mentioning that nmtui has similar problems. It's become unusable since i updated yesterday.

Code:
Tue Jun 23 21:49:49 UTC 2020
xap/network-manager-applet-1.18.0-x86_64-1.txz: Upgraded.
Is anyone else getting this weird behaviour?

Monitor NM with tail -f /var/log/messages.

Does this also happen from within a clean user account?

It's only the applet which was updated. Perhaps you have a conflicting config file somewhere?

I had that with kernel 5.4.29. After I upgraded it to the latest, the problem was solved.

Try switching the dhcp client from dhcpcd to dhclient.

Edit /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/00-dhcp-client.conf and comment out the dhcpcd line and uncomment hte dhclient line.
