Oh, no, the computer itself can connect fine to the internet. I can bring up anything with a web browser just fine so it's not the nameserver and it's not anything IP related. Remember, I tried it on slackware and on suse and slackware was the only one it didn't work on. Just the fact that gaim wouldn't connect to the server without it being re-routed via a sniffer tells me that it is something low-level or kernel related, not something stupid like the wrong ip address or nameserver. And, yeah, I have looked at /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 quite a bit and nothing seems wrong.
Just so you know, here is the layout of my xbox and my computer. Remember that the xbox cannot even DETECT my computer when it is running on slackware.
