Network Services sometimes don't work over the LAN

I keep on getting this weird "bug" where I can ssh into my slack box from the external WAN IP, but, when I try to ssh into the local IP of the box (the 192.168.x.x ip) it wont work. I sometimes can't access samba over the LAN either.

Both computers are using wifi. I'm using slack13 and XP.

I know you'll probably say it's something wifi related, but the only thing that makes me think that it's not wifi is that I can putty into the lan ip, have it time out, then immediately ssh into the wan ip (i have dyndns setup for the dynamic ip) and have it work, then immediately logout and try the local ip, and have it time out again.

If I sit there long enough trying to get it to work, or restarting smnbd and/or sshd enough times, it'll work after a while, but for some reason, over LAN, it won't work sometimes, and it's really frustrating.

What do you think might be causing this, and what kind of information do you need to troubleshoot this?

well, hopefully it will be something from the obvious list:

make sure port 22 is open on lan (no firewalls blocking that port);

make sure sshd is allowed in /etc/hosts.allow and/or not blocked by/etc/hosts.deny;

make sure you can ping the local ip address of your slack box before trying to ssh;

make sure all the keys are present in /etc/ssh;

verify your dns settings (maybe check your dyndns with host or dig);

provide alternative to dns for situations when it fails, by, on both boxes,
populating the /etc/hosts file with names and local ips of local boxes;

make sure the all the keys are present in /etc/ssh;
