Network prob.

I have two network cards in my slcakware machine and only one of them will always be detected by linux.
I ran netconfig to setup and find my setwork card and set the IP to 192.168.0.4 and the gateway to 192.168.0.1 and set it up properly.
I then did ifconfig eth0 up to bring up the ethernet card.
But i cant ping any other computer on my network. At first i thought i had my network cable in the wrong card, but i tired both cards and it didnt work at all.

When i do ifconfig it doesnt show the IP address or subnet of eth0, but it does in /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1
Is there anything i may be missing here to get my ethernet card workin proerly??

If I recall correctly, netconfig, will configure /etc/HOSTNAME, /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1, and I think also /etc/rc.d/rc.netdevices if a module is required. But it doesn't actually execute anything. That would be on the next reboot it should load through the init scripts.

But it is required to have a net card identified and loaded either by kernel or module before ifconfig can to do anything on eth0 or eth1. If your net card module is loading AFTER rc.inet1 runs then it wasn't present when it was configured. If ifconfig output is missing eth0 after reboot, then it is not loaded properly.

What model are your two NICs?

you need to edit /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1
in there you will see how to activate eth1.
